Bitter End... but not really
No, of course it's not really that bad; I just found a hilarious picture that I realized was never posted. It's from my visit to the Navion Hispania (a Teekay suezmax class shuttle tanker that operates in the North Sea) in early November. The vessel was moored just outside of Stavanger, so I went for a little visit.
So, what do I find on this large, technically advanced vessel? This:

Now, I must mention that I ran into this little gem about a week after arriving in Stavanger. This is seriously painted on one of the panels. I swear. I was convinced that it was a sign from above informing me of what was in store during my stay in this lovely country. Now go rent 'American Splendor'. Seriously.

Hey Matty!
It's been an age or two, eh? It's interesting to see where all the Collingwood people have ended up. I never thought I'd be working at a bank, but apparently I am.
Anyway.
To answer your pondering about what the bitter end is... well, it's not anything I know of in Norwegian, but it is a term for the end of the anchor chain that's attached to the boat. Does that make sense?
